oc night market 2016

It’s me again! So, this post isn’t really about a swim meet at all… It’s about the OC Night Market! For those of you who don’t know, my younger brother is a competitive swimmer. And this one very, very hot weekend in June required my mom and I to go with him down to Irvine and watch him compete in a preliminary junior Olympics swim meet. So, what did I do? I convinced my mom to also take us to the OC Night Market after the swim meet, of course. I mean, we were already going to be in that area anyways, right?

Upon entry, we were met with a wide variety of colorful and intriguing paintings, drawings, and other types of artwork created by local artists. We took our time looking at all the cool art booths, appreciating not only the detail and talent, but also the much needed air conditioning. When we continued to the main outside part of the market, we discovered an endless amount of booths containing a lot of yummy-smelling food. Where did my brother want to head first? To the pizza fries, of course! I, however, wanted to try a strawberry smoothie that was interestingly bottled in a large glass light bulb. The smoothie wasn’t the best, but I loved the creativity… Well, I love any cute or creative drinks or food.

After walking around a bit more and passing many different types of food options, I spotted The Dirty Cookie booth. I’d seen the cookie-made “shot glasses” on Instagram and had been wanting to try them out. Now was my chance! I ordered a cookies’n’cream cookie shot with vanilla creme, and my brother got a chocolate chip cookie shot with milk. Overall, it was really good, but it was a lot of cookie to eat. However, we weren’t done yet. Wanting to get some nutritional food in our system, my mom and I spotted the Nori Gami Tacos stand. A deep-fried seaweed taco shell with fresh ahi tuna inside?! We had to try one! It was delicious, and colorful, too!

Lastly, my mom really wanted to get some grilled corn. She loves popcorn and corn, so we always get one or the other whenever we’re at a food event like this. Unfortunately, the corn wasn’t seasoned enough and was a little over-grilled, but we had a pretty good food adventure overall. I mean, my brother loved his pizza fries and I loved my ahi tuna taco! A post swim meet meal can’t get much better than that.
